Failed Back Surgery Syndrome
Jupiter and West Palm Beach Offices serving all of Florida
Failed back surgery is back surgery that has failed to achieve the desired outcome. It is a generalized term often used to describe the condition of patients after spine surgery has an unsuccessful result.
There are many reasons spine surgery may or may not achieve the desired outcome, even with an outstanding surgeon and significant surgical indications, spine surgery is only 95% predictive of a successful result.
Spine surgery is only one solution to back pain and should only be considered if all non-operative measures have been exhausted. Spine surgery alters a probable cause of back pain that is identified prior to the surgery and serves mainly to decompress an impinged nerve root or stabilize a painful joint to halt symptoms of chronic pain and neurological decline.
